B.C. Notary Public

A person authorized to witness the signing of documents, make certified copies, solemn declarations, and affidavits, etc... In British Columbia, the rights and powers of notaries are set out in Section 18 of the B.C. Notaries Act. Section 14(3) of the Legal Profession Act, provides that lawyers in British Columbia are automatically granted the same powers as a notaries.

Bearer

A person that carries or holds something - such as a passport.

A person who presents a cheque or other order to pay money.

Beneficiary

The person designated to receive the income from a will, trust, estate, trust, or insurance policy is a beneficiary.

Bequeath

To leave something in a Will

Bequest

Something given in a Will, other than real property.

Bona Fide

Latin: Genuine, sincere, and in good faith.
